Fuel3D has developed a handheld scanner, a point-and-shoot 3D imaging system that captures high resolution (~350 microns) shape and colour information of objects. Fuel3D is the world’s first 3D scanner to combine pre-calibrated stereo cameras with photometric imaging to capture and process files in seconds.
Fuel3D’s platform captures 3D data in under 0.1 seconds and offers unique capabilities for scanning subjects in high resolution. Our work with partners has led to substantial advancements across a variety of market sectors, ranging from healthcare and academia to security and 3D manufacturing.
Our technology combines a number of image processing technologies to allow on-the-spot acquisition of high-quality 3D images:
- Photometric stereo is used to acquire color and high-resolution 3D detail from the subject;
- Stereoscopic imaging is used to acquire accurate underlying 3D shape information from the subject;
- Data fusion is performed to combine the data output of the photometric and geometric processes to produce a single 3D image;
- Movement compensation can be used to account for the movement of the scanner during the acquisition process.
