Example case studies of MTI investments
Oxford PV
Oxford PV are the pioneer and technology leader in the field of perovskite solar cells.

They were established in 2010 as a spin-out from the University of Oxford, with MTI as the first institutional investors. Today, they have the largest global team exclusively focused on developing and commercialising a perovskite-based solar technology, and are building the world’s first volume manufacturing line for perovskite-on-silicon tandem solar cells.

Their perovskite technology will drive up efficiency, which improves cost effectiveness much more than cost reduction alone.
Apatech
ApaTech develops, manufactures and sells synthetic bone substitutes to surgeons globally, a $2 billion-plus market growing in double digits on the wave of the aging population.
First invested £3.75m as a co-lead in a series B round with 3i when the company had 9 staff, was turning over $300k and was based in Queen Mary University of London where the science had originated.
Company became profitable and employed +100 people with sales of $15 million.
For 3 years running, ApaTech was acclaimed the fastest VC-backed UK MedTech company in Sunday Times Tech Track 100 surveys.
Baxter saw ApaTech and its products as the ideal adjuncts to its existing surgery portfolio, helping to lever sales through its existing channels. The commercial fit was excellent.
